For those wishing to conduct a preliminary novelty search, here are some web sites that are useful.

PatentValuePredictor provides automated valuations of patents. These
valuations may be useful in accounting for acquisitions and mergers, tax
considerations, Technology and patent licensing and sales, company
valuations, competitive business intelligence, and investment decisions to
compare patent and valuations.  The US Patent and Trademark Office Site This site is a guide to patent, and to some extent other intellectual property, information resources on the Internet. It is hosted by the Patents Information Service of the Science Reference and Information Service, the science and technology wing of the British Library. Chemical Patents Plus offers free searching of the entire FULLTEXT patent database from 1971 and includes free display of patent titles and abstracts. The Questel / Orbit site provides free abstracts of all US Patents issued since 1974.

Doing it yourself is an easy, inexpensive means to skim the patent literature. It is far from comprehensive, however.

We always recommend working with competent legal counsel and have worked with Dr. Richard A. Neifeld, Esq. ( in the past.
